Artist Statement

I am interested in relationships and in the different possibilities that emerge when something familiar encounters a new context.

I think often about the multiple selves we carry through a lifetime. We remain ourselves, yet different aspects of who we are emerge through our relationships, environments, cultures, and experiences. Perception can shift as well; a person, an encounter, or a situation can look different when viewed from another position.

My paintings give physical form to that curiosity. Two things that exist independently can create something neither contains alone. Change their relationship and another possibility emerges. There does not have to be a single correct arrangement or a single way of seeing.

This openness to multiple possibilities allows for continued questioning. I am interested in what happens at boundaries, where one thing ends and another begins, where separate forms meet, and where an apparent ending can become a continuation.
